Dominion Block, Brick & Hardscapes Helps Revitalize Century-Old Building
The century-old building in downtown Roanoke was built in 1912. During the recent renovation process, some of the original architectural details were uncovered and incorporated into the final design.
Chuck Kepley of Dominion Block, Brick & Hardscapes worked closely with Hughes & Associates on product selection, ensuring outstanding quality and service were provided throughout the project.
The existing building had some extreme water problems throughout the building. To eliminate that concern, careful consideration was given to the selection of masonry products. Arris.Tile Renaissance Stone Veneer was chosen in two colors: Magnolia and Ginger.
In addition to using the Laticrete Masonry Veneer Installation System to adhere and waterproof the Arris.Tile assembly, the designers also chose to use the ProGUARD®DP, Insulated Concrete Board Wall System. Installing this unique wall system on the outside of the assembly greatly reduces heat transfer through the studs or concrete. The panels are also furnished with drainage planes to allow moisture to migrate down the wall assembly to flashing lines – thus eliminating water penetration.
Utilizing the expertise and diligence of the general contractor, Thor Construction, and the masonry contractor, Melton Masonry, the project was completed in 2018.
The renovation is one of function, sustainability and beauty.
The organization that maintains almost 1,500 miles of drinking water pipes is sure to enjoy the building for another century.
